Quill's Word Garden

"Tik-tik. I collect words like shiny things. Pick a stone — every word you place plants a flower."

Plant a word, grow a garden. A calm spelling game for Year 1–6. No timers, no scores, no subscription.

Pick a level

No locks. Any stone, any time — Quill will be at the next one when you're ready.

🐸 Frog Hop — Year 1 grammar

Help Frog cross the pond by fixing the sentence. Spot the missing capital letter or full stop, tap the right stone, and watch Frog catch a juicy bug at the end.

🪶 Word Polisher — Year 4–5 vocabulary

Tap underlined words in a short story and pick a better synonym. Watch for traps. Then recall the words from memory in Round 2, and compose your own short story in Round 3. Quill's gemstone gets brighter with every perfect pick.

About Word Garden 🪶

Word Garden teaches spelling through Montessori's Movable Alphabet and the Three-Period Lesson. Each word arrives three times — first met, then recognised, then built. Cambridge Primary English Stages 1–6, no timers, no scores, no subscription.

Why etymology, not rote

About a third of words drop with a tiny origin card — "Cake comes from Old Norse kaka — over 1,000 years old." Spelling becomes a journey through where words come from, not a memory test. Greek and Latin roots show up explicitly at Level 7.

What we don't cover

Word Garden is a practice surface — it does not replace the UK SWST diagnostic spelling test, dictation work, or handwriting practice. For SWST, see your school. For handwriting, try sand-tray tracing or printable letter-formation sheets. We point to free options in the Parents Zone matrix on each Year hub.
